Maties Netball move up to fourth place on Varsity Netball log

Maties Netball moved up to fourth place on the Varsity Netball log after a bumper weekend of netball at the Coetzenburg Centre on 18 and 19 September.

Maties followed up a strong performance against UJ on Sunday with an emphatic 69-25 win against neighbours UCT on Monday.

On Sunday, there was only a one goal difference between Maties and UJ at half-time, but Maties managed to pull away in the last two quarters to beat their opponents 61-51. Captain Juline Rossouw was named player of match.

It was a bit easier for Maties on Monday. They played at a fast pace and dominated goal possession, turnovers, intercepts and attacks, ultimately setting them up for success with a final score and win of 69-25 against UCT. The half-time score was 40-15.

The FNB Player of the Match went to Maties' Annerine Snyman, who was happy with her team's play. Captain Juline Rossouw said that the game was a good opportunity to up the Maties' confidence.

The current log standings are as follows: UP-Tuks (35 points); NWU-Puk (20 points); UFS Kovsies (15 points); Maties (15 points); NMMU Madibaz (15 points); UJ (7 points); UCT Ikeys (5 points); VUT (0 points).

On Monday 26 September Maties play VUT in the Coetzenburg Centre at 18:00. Their next match is against Kovsies, also in the Coetzenburg Centre, on Thursday 29 September at 19:00.
