Stellenbosch University (SU) is set to welcome its alumni with open arms to its first ever Homecoming weekend, taking place from 4 to 7 March 2016 on the Stellenbosch campus.

With a packed programme in place, the Homecoming weekend promises something for everyone.  Alumni can look forward to a range of faculty-specific activities; the popular Dagbreek/Maties Street Mile taking place in Victoria Street; tours of the campus; and residence-specific events, including Heemstede's 50th reunion, a Koeksusterfees at Nemesia, Erica and Serruria, and a Legacy Festival with Metanoia at De Vette Mossel, amongst other Homecoming event offerings.

Of course, the Alumni Relations office did not forget about the rugby-loving alumni. The opportunity to #backyourboytjies presents on Monday, 7 March at the Coetzenburg Sportsgrounds where Maties will face the UFS Shimlas in the Varsity Cup.

And what would a homecoming be without some extra-special treatment? Homecoming coincides with the ever-popular SU Woordfees, and alumni get a special discounted rate to attend some of the over 120 Woordfees productions on offer. Discounted productions include a finger-licking food and wine safari through the beautiful Devon Valley; Leon van Nierop sharing anecdotes from days of yore and discussing the wonderful history of the South African film industry, as contained in his new book, Daar doer in die fliek; and Die dag is bros, an Innibos production starring award-winning actress Sandra Prinsloo. To book and claim the discount, alumni should visit www.matiesalumni.com.

Says Vice-Chancellor Prof De Villiers: "Fellow Maties, here's your chance to reconnect with old friends, to relive those wonderful student days and to learn more about the exciting research and innovation activities taking place at your alma mater. Come and see how much has changed and how much is still the same. It's always great to come home to Matieland and we can't wait to see you."

Do not miss the official kick-off cocktail party on Friday, 4 March from 17:00 - 19:00 at the Museum's Plataan Café, where musical entertainment will be provided. The Alumni Relations team looks forward to welcoming all returning Maties.
