Fully packed heritage programme planned for September
The annual e'Bosch heritage project, hosted collaboratively by Stellenbosch University (SU) and the Stellenbosch University, has been launched at the Stellenbosch University Museum on Tuesday, 30 August 2016.
This project, already in its sixth year, gives communities in and around Stellenbosch the opportunity to celebrate own and shared heritages.
Young adults have also been recognised for their contributions in the community at the e'Bosch award ceremony. (Click here for more information.)
Speaking at the event, Prof Nico Koopman, Vice-Rector: Social Impact, Transformation and Personnel, highlighted the importance for South Africans to celebrate their rich heritage. He said South Africans celebrate their heritage to remember.
"Our heritage is rich – whether it is political, economic, cultural or historical. Our heritage is future orientated. That can be witnessed through these youth being awarded for their contribution towards our heritage. Our heritage also knows tragedy. And it is through this imperfect heritage that we can travel to higher levels of social impact.
Ms Gesie van Deventer, Executive Mayor of the Stellenbosch Municipality, referred to the e'Bosch project as an opportunity that unites towns, creates respect and trust, and encourages debate.
About 50 projects form part of the programme of the month's festivities.
