Director of University of Stellenbosch's Business School reacts to cabinet reshuffling
31 March 2017
In reaction to President Jacob Zuma's reshuffling of cabinet last night, Prof Piet Naudé, Director of the University of Stellenbosch Business School, made the following declaration:
We at the University of Stellenbosch Business School (USB) took note of President Zuma’s reshuffling of the cabinet last night. We fully recognise the constitutional prerogative of the President to decide on the members of cabinet. The context of this action, however, suggests that this decision is not in the best interest of South Africa, and will have a negative effect on the fiscal stability, economic welfare and the overall development of our country. This in turn will diminish the ability of our government to execute its social mandate, and will reduce trust in the legitimacy of key democratic institutions.USB will continue to educate the new generation of business leaders for the public, private and civil society sectors in South Africa and on the African continent. We remain fully committed to use our academic capacities and executive education in service of reducing inequalities, addressing poverty, and creating an entrepreneurial mind-set toward job-creation. We recognise the vital importance of a country with a more inclusive economy. We call on all South Africans to retain hope whilst we garner our collective goodwill and energy to realise the enormous potential of our country.
