Matieland is ready for its inaugural Homecoming Weekend for alumni taking place on the Stellenbosch campus from 4 to 7 March and staff members are encouraged to come and join in the festivities.

"We are all part of Matieland afterall," says Stellenbosch University (SU) Alumni Relations Manager Shaun Stuart. "Come and show your support. The Alumni Relations team has been hard at work over the past few months putting together a jam-packed programme of events and activities to enjoy throughout the weekend and the more people who come to enjoy it, the better!"

The Homecoming Weekend promises something for everyone. You can look forward to a range of faculty- and residence- specific networking, social activities and cultural events. One of the weekend's highlights is an intergenerational talk on local and global issues to be hosted by the Discourse Café where alumnus Prof Pierre de Vos will speak. And don't miss out on our Homecoming cocktail party with the Rector and Vice-Chancellor, Prof Wim de Villiers on Friday, 4 March from 17:00 to 19:00 at the SU Museum's Plataan Café.

Residence-specific events include Heemstede's 50th reunion, a Koeksisterfees at Nemesia, Erica and Serruria, a Spit Braai at Huis Visser and a Legacy Festival with Metanoia at De Vette Mossel and the popular Dagbreek/Maties Street Mile taking place in Victoria Street.

Says Karen Bruns, Senior Director: Development and Alumni Relations: "Remember, our Homecoming coincides with the ever-popular Woordfees, and as an alumnus and/or member of staff, you will receive a specially discounted rate on a selection of Woordfees productions that are booked exclusively via www.matiesalumni.com ."

Discounted productions include golden circle opportunities at the legendary Johnny Clegg's concert on Friday, 4 March, and the variety Woordfees POPS Concert on Sunday, 6 March where you can rub shoulders with the cream of our country's music stars like Laurika Rauch, Elvis Blue, Gloria Bosman, Brandon October, Andriëtte Norman, Peter Maartens and Joshua na die Reën.
