Press statement by RULCI
11 June 2026
- The Research Unit for Legal and Constitutional Interpretation and Theory (RULCI), of the University of the Western Cape and Stellenbosch University, along with several prominent South African academic and human rights research units have issued a joint statement strongly condemning the recent surge in xenophobic violence, intimidation, and vigilante actions targeting foreign nationals in the Western Cape and Free State.
- The groups emphasise that immigration enforcement is strictly the responsibility of the state, and they urge the government to protect vulnerable populations, hold perpetrators accountable, and reform migration policies.
