Johndré Barnes is a lecturer in the Department of Private Law. He joined the Law Faculty in 2025 and holds an LLB, LLM, and LLD from Stellenbosch University. His research spans the fields of legal subjectivity, gender recognition, children’s rights, and constitutional values. His doctoral research examined the legal recognition of non-binary and gender-diverse identities, developing arguments for inclusive legal frameworks that affirm the rights of LGBTQIA+ persons and other marginalised communities. His work contributes to a transformative reimagining of legal subjectivity.
