Visit the garden

Stellenbosch University Botanical Garden, in the historical center of Stellenbosch, is the oldest university botanical garden in South Africa. It is open to the public and displays showcase local habitats and conservation issues, South African biomes and plants, medicinal plants and many research and taxon collections from South Africa and around the world.

 

Opening hours

Summer: 08:00 - 17:00 (Mon to Sunday)

Including public holidays, except New Year's Day and Easter Friday.

Winter: 08:00 - 17:0​0 (09 May - 31 August) 

Every day (Monday to Sunday) 

Tickets

  • R15 Admission, R10 for Seniors​
  • Annual entry cards available at discounted rates
  • Free entry to SU students and staff
  • Larger groups are welcome with prior-arrangement.
  • ​Children only under supervision
  • No photo shoots without prior-arrangement, professional shoots are are subject to a fee.

 

Directions

To reach the Stellenbosch University Botanical Garden from the Eastern Cape, take the R63 west through the Karoo to join the N1 at Beaufort West. Continue south on the N1 for several hundred kilometers before taking the R44 exit toward Stellenbosch. Follow the R44 into the town center, then turn left onto Merriman Avenue and right onto Neethling Street, where you’ll find the garden entrance.

Parking: 

The Botanical Garden does not have a dedicated visitor parking area, a municipal parking area is located adjacent to the Garden in Van Riebeeck Street and street parking is also available surrounding the Garden.

The Botanical Café, located in the heart of the Stellenbosch University Botanical Garden in South Africa, is a charming spot with a rich history. The restaurant is surrounded by beautiful, lush greenery, making it a peaceful and idyllic setting for visitors.

The beautiful natural surroundings of the Botanical Garden is an ideal setting for photographic shoots and garden functions.

  • The unique Botanical Café* indoor studio, overlooking the lush Fern House is ideal for small conferences, exhibitions or workshops.
  • All photography and formal photo shoots must be arranged with the office.
