Decanting building & Silvertrees parking area
Total construction value: R128 million
Stellenbosch University has an ever-expanding staff and student population. The northern precinct of the campus was conceptualised as a Support Services and Facilities Management precinct, and the Decanting facility was set up to temporarily accommodate faculties affected by the ongoing refurbishments on campus. Currently staff and students from the Engineering department are occupying the premises while construction takes place on that campus. Simultaneously, a new secure, student-friendly parking area reduces the number of private vehicles on central campus, creating an intermodal node for the SU Shuttles and NMT routes.
The Decanting Facility is a landmark, serving as a formalised urban gateway to a precinct previously considered peripheral. In line with the master plan on environmental sustainability, a 500 kW photovoltaic installation was recently completed to add electricity to the grid of our northern campus.
