  • University-managed Windows devices will now receive more consistent software update notifications to help keep systems secure.
  • Updates are quick, guided and may require you to close apps or restart your device.
  • Complete updates promptly to avoid repeated reminders.

The Information Technology Division is improving how software updates are delivered on university-managed Windows devices to ensure they remain secure, reliable and up to date with minimal disruption to your work. This is one of the simplest ways to stay protected against security risks. Updates also help ensure that applications such as Outlook, Teams and web browsers continue to work properly.

What this means for you

From time to time, you may receive a simple message on your university-managed Windows device asking you to update an application.

These messages will clearly show which application needs updating and guide you through what to do next. Most updates only take a few moments and can be completed with a few clicks, without needing IT assistance.

Some updates may ask you to close an application such as Outlook or Teams. In some cases, you may need to restart your device to complete the update.

What you need to do

When you see an update message:

  • Follow the instructions on your screen
  • Complete the update when prompted
  • Restart your device if requested

Completing updates promptly helps prevent repeated reminders.
