What we do

Vision

Our Vision is to:

  • Respond to Africa’s unique needs and challenges in the field of education and the quality assurance thereof by offering innovative, contextually relevant, and internationally credible solutions to enable African students access to quality higher education institutions, including Stellenbosch University, ultimately strengthening the University’s role in shaping international education, expanding access, and advancing knowledge in service of society.

Mission

This Unit will strive to:

  • Contribute to the internationalisation of education across Africa through credible and portable qualifications for access to higher education institutions.
  • Design and implement robust quality assurance mechanisms for international school-leaving qualifications developed and administered within Africa.
  • Provide research and advisory services on qualification enhancement, including benchmarking and curriculum and assessment evaluation in global contexts.
  • Strengthen capacity across Africa in the fields of educational assessment and curriculum development through targeted training and development initiatives.

Core Activities

  •  Verification of external examination bodies’ quality assurance processes for credible examinations (upon request).
  • Certification of specific international examinations (upon request)
  • Development and coordination of course content for assessment training purposes in collaboration with educationists and organisations active in education.  

Memberships

Stellenbosch University is governed by the Higher Education Act 101 of 1997 and is registered with the Department of Higher Education and Training. The Unit is an institutional member of the following associations:

  • International Association for Educational Assessment
  • Association for Educational Assessment in Africa
  • Association for Educational Assessment-Europe
