  • We invite applications for a Postdoctoral Fellow who will support our work.

The Nhu Space is a place aimed at nurturing critical and creative thinking, approaches, and actions, and is anchored on two thematic areas of work:

  • Boys, Men and Masculinities
  • Decolonised, Decolonial, Indigenous, Africa(n)-centring Psychology

The Space supports and brings together individuals interested in critical and creative inquiry, methodologies, and practices that engage with, deepen understanding of, and provide new insights into questions related to these two domains of work.

We invite applications for a Postdoctoral Fellow who will support our work. The ideal candidate is someone who is critical-structural but also invested in creative world- and self-making. The award will be for one year, renewable for a second year, contingent upon satisfactory performance. The Fellow will work under the supervisory mentorship of Professor Ratele while also supporting the work and collaborating with other members of the Nhu Space. We are based within the Psychology Department; however, the Fellow’s PhD need not have been awarded in Psychology.
In addition to supporting the head and members of the Nhu Space in their work, the Fellow is expected to:

  1. Co-author on joint publications and co-present on joint presentations
  2. Publish their own research
  3. Plan and coordinate events of the Space
  4. Maintain and enhance the social media platforms of the Space as vehicles for public engagement and dissemination of our activities
  5. Provide support and assist with the development of our postgraduate-related work

Eligibility Requirements

A PhD degree not older than five years.
Strong analytical and writing skills
Strong interest in critical African-centred thought and critical masculinity studies.
Strong interest creative work, such as African art, music, literature or photography
Familiarity with disciplines other than the one in which the PhD was awarded.
Demonstrable expertise in different methodologies and method of analysis from both the qualitative and quantitative traditions
