Universities South Africa (USA) re-affirmed its commitment to the widening of student access to university study in South Africa as well as the transformation of South African universities. In a joint statement, issued by the vice-chancellors, principals and rectors of 26 universities in the country, USA also calls for adequate financial aid to allow all academically qualified students to enrol at universities without prohibition.

"We believe a quality higher education system is necessary for realising a democratic, non-racial, non-sexist and economically and socially inclusive society."

USA also expressed its appreciation for the work done by the recently appointed presidential task team regarding immediate funding challenges at universities and welcomes the president's acceptance of the Task Team's recommendations.
