
Statement: student raped in private residence
The Management of Stellenbosch University (SU) learnt with much regret and concern of a female student who was raped in the Nassau private residence in town on the 20th of August. The survivor is not a SU student and her identity was not made known to the University. The Crisis Service of the University was notified some days after the incident and supported and counselled Stellenbosch students living in the residence.
At this stage the identity of the perpetrator is not known to the University.
According to an article in the Eikestadnuus this week, the survivor is receiving counselling and is with her parents. The article also stated that no one has been arrested yet and that anyone with information is requested to contact the Stellenbosch Police at tel 021 809 9140.
