Admission to a PhD programme requires a master’s degree from a reputable university that is approved by Senate for this purpose, or evidence of equivalent competence that demonstrates readiness for doctoral‑level research. Applicants are assessed on their academic preparation, research potential, and alignment between their proposed study and departmental supervisory capacity. Candidates are also encouraged to consult Part 1 (General Rules) of the University Yearbook for detailed information on doctoral admission and registration. Together, these programmes and requirements ensure that doctoral candidates enter their studies with the foundation, focus, and support needed to undertake rigorous, high‑quality research.
