Stellenbosch University is proud to announce the return of Library Research Week 2026, taking place from 11 to 15 May. Inspired by the competitive spirit and strategy of the upcoming FIFA World Cup, this year’s theme, "Score Big! Elevate Your Research", is designed to help you master the research field and achieve peak academic performance.
The Launch Event: A Vision of the Future
The week begins with the launch event on Monday, 11 May, featuring Prof. Francesco Petruccione. As the Pro-Vice Chancellor: Artificial Intelligence and Quantum Technologies, Prof. Petruccione is at the forefront of the technological revolution in academia.
Prof. Francesco Petruccione, Professor of Quantum Computing and Pro Vice-Chancellor: Artificial Intelligence and Quantum Technologies keynote address, The New Scientific Method: Navigating Research in the Age of AI and Quantum Technologies, will challenge traditional views on discovery. He will explore how the integration of human insight and machine intelligence is redefining scientific rigour and authorship.
Your Tactical Playbook: Daily Sub-Themes
Following the launch, the remainder of the week will be presented via interactive webinars, each focusing on a specific strategic sub-theme to enhance your research capabilities:
- Tuesday: Kick-Off Strong - Focus on the foundations of a winning project. Sessions include ethical AI integration for literature reviews, expert guidance on writing research proposals, and strategies for turning your thesis into a publication.
- Wednesday: Play with Purpose - Master the technical tools of the trade. This day features introductions to REDCap for secure data capture, ATLAS.ti for qualitative analysis, and advanced search strategies for systematic reviews.
- Thursday: Power Your Performance - Strengthen your research workflow and integrity. Explore the mechanics of Large Language Models, ensure institutional compliance with Research Data Management (RDM), and navigate the ethics of academic writing in the age of AI.
- Friday: Lift the Trophy - Finish strong with tools for long-term success. Gain insights into Sage Research Methods and attend a specialised session on the brain-body connection to reduce stress and boost your cognitive bandwidth for the final whistle.
