Every year, the Thuthuka Bursary (Thuthuka) of the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA) provides full funding for academically and financially deserving African and Coloured students who are studying to become chartered accountants at selected SAICA-accredited universities in the country.

As the custodian of the chartered accountancy profession, SAICA has undertaken to ensure that the Thuthuka students are not simply offered financial support but are holistically supported to make them successful. The comprehensive support of the Thuthuka bursary has been proven to reduce university drop-out rates and exponentially improve students' employment potential. The Thuthuka programme has already created more than 1 500 fully qualified chartered accountants in South Africa.

The applications for Thuthuka bursaries for 2023 BAcc students are now open.

Prospective students must apply to Stellenbosch University (applications are open) and apply for residence before applying for a Thuthuka bursary.

The bursaries are only for BAcc students with a matric average of 70% (excluding Life Orientation), a mathematics mark of at least 70% (but preferably 80%), and an Accounting mark of at least 70%.

The link to access the application portal is www.thuthukabursaryfund.co.za. Applications close on 31 August 2022.  (Remember to access the portal using Google Chrome.)
