Datawetenskap (DS)
Welcome to the IE Data Science website, your dedicated resource for excellence in data science learning and application
Data science is the scientific investigation that employs innovative approaches and algorithms, most notably machine learning algorithms, for processing and analysing data. Data Science technologies can be applied to both small and big data, of various types such as relational, images, video, audio, and text. Big data constitutes extremely large data sets that may be analysed computationally to reveal patterns, trends and associations, especially relating to human behaviour and interactions. The data science programmes focus on enabling students to develop innovative optimisation and machine learning techniques to produce novel, efficient and robust data science technologies, for use in Industrial Engineering, Engineering Management and related applications. Examples include forecasting, customer segmentation and targeted marketing, production quality control, supply chair performance prediction and process monitoring.
PGDip (Eng) (Industrial Engineering)
You will complete eight 15-credit modules (six Data Science, two generic) plus one 1-credit Professional Communication module. Most 9-week modules include 2 weeks of self-paced study, 5 days of required online lectures, and a 6-week assignment period. Please follow the specified module sequence, as content is cumulative, and note that some departments may have different attendance requirements.
MEng (Industrial Engineering) Structured Focus: Data Science
This programme includes eight 15-credit modules, a 60-credit research project, and an automatic 1-credit Professional Communication module. Each 9-week module typically involves 2 weeks of self-paced study, 5 days of required online lectures, and a post-assignment period.
