Our Work

The Division has the following focus areas

We offer free, confidential, and professional counselling to support you through personal, emotional, or academic difficulties. Whether you're dealing with anxiety, depression, trauma, substance use, low self-esteem, or identity-related concerns, our trained mental health professionals are here to help. You don’t have to face challenges alone.

You can access both individual and group support, as well as join our work sessions to learn practical tools to, for example, manage stress or strengthen your resilience. We're here to walk alongside you as you navigate university life and prioritise your mental well-being to make a success of your studies.

Our services

Counselling support

If you're a registered SU student, you can access short-term individual counselling or therapy. After an initial screening, one of our counsellors or psychologists will work with you to understand your situation and help find the best way forward - whether that’s ongoing therapy or connecting you with the right resources. Some challenges are easier to face when you’re in a space with others who truly get it. That’s why we also offer counselling in the form of therapeutic and support group sessions, each with a specific focus, to students. During your screening, the counsellor may recommend a group setting that suits your needs and make the necessary referral to ensure you get the support you need.

Work study programme

The work study programme allows students in financial need to earn a small income to cover essentials like food and books while also gaining work experience.

Food assistance

Our social workers are here to support students in need of food assistance and will conduct a holistic assessment to determine how best to assist you.
