Extended Learning Spaces (ELS) project
Total project budget: R20 400 000
The COVID pandemic accelerated SU’s digitisation strategy, and the Extended Learning Spaces – ELS – project, which makes Augmented Learning a reality, arose out of this. The ELS project kicked off in November 2020, as an emergency response to the COVID-19 restrictions implemented by the government.
The aim of the project is fully aligned with the Teaching and Learning Policy (2018), to provide a better learning experience to students, and, in addition, to reach new student markets.
Through the ELS project, all schedulable lecture venues are equipped with audio-visual equipment and systems, to enable lecturers to stream their lectures to online students while they are teaching the in-class students. The ELS project enables students to enjoy an interactive learning experience comparable to the in-class experience. The project was planned and executed in multiple phases over the various campuses.
