Maties Esports Surge Into Split 1 Finals
- Stellenbosch University’s Maties Esports has delivered a standout performance in the first split of Varsity Esports, cementing its reputation as one of the country’s rising competitive forces.
In Valorant, Maties will be strongly represented with three teams advancing to the seeding finals. Defending champions SU Odin return to protect their title, joined by SU Supreme, who powered their way into the top four, and an impressive SU Maroon Machine squad that has emerged as a serious contender. Having three teams at this stage highlights both depth and consistency within the Maties Valorant setup.
Over in Rocket League, the dominance continues. Defending champions SU TaMaties are back to defend their crown, while SU Turbo Charge, who secured a third-place finish, adds further firepower to the Maties lineup heading into finals weekend.
The action will unfold on 16 and 17 May at the Coetzenburg Indoor Centre, with matches kicking off from 9am each day. Entry is free, giving fans a perfect opportunity to experience top-tier university esports live.
Beyond the competition, attendees can look forward to sponsor activations and interactive experiences, with exciting prizes up for grabs—adding to what promises to be an electric atmosphere.
This marks the first of two split finals, with the second set to take place at the University of Pretoria. As Maties Esports continues to build momentum across multiple titles, all eyes will be on Stellenbosch to see if they can convert their strong presence into championship success once again.
