  • Maties Sport is pleased to announce the appointment of Lucinda Bowers as Sport Manager for the Maties Football programme.

Bowers joins the organisation with a strong background in sport administration, coaching, and student-athlete development. Her appointment reinforces Maties Sport’s ongoing commitment to enhancing leadership capacity and operational excellence within its high-performance structures. With a proud history of achievement and competitive participation, the Maties Football programme stands to benefit from her expertise as it continues to build on this legacy.

A Strong Foundation in Sport and Football

Hailing from the Northern Cape, Bowers brings both passion and experience to the role. She holds an Advanced Diploma in Sports Management and is a qualified football coach with a CAF A licence, reflecting her solid technical and administrative capabilities.

Prior to joining Maties Sport, she served as a Sports Officer at Sol Plaatje University, where she contributed significantly to sport development and administration. She also held the position of Provincial Working Committee Convenor for University Sport South Africa (USSA) Football in the Free State/Northern Cape region, demonstrating her leadership and influence within university football structures.

Bowers’ coaching portfolio includes involvement in youth and national development pathways. In 2020, she served as a technical officer and assistant coach for the SAFA U17 Girls programme, supporting high-level talent development. Her experience further extends to coaching at the University of Cape Town, strengthening her understanding of the university sport environment.

In her new role, Bowers will be responsible for both the strategic and operational management of the football programme. Her duties will include overseeing competition logistics, supporting athlete welfare, coordinating with coaching staff, and ensuring the structures are in place to enable student-athletes to succeed.

Her appointment aligns with a renewed emphasis on performance, participation, and holistic athlete development at Maties Sport. She is set to play a key role as the programme prepares for the 2026 competitive season.
