Honours in History
This programme deepens your knowledge of historical research methodologies and prepares you for independent research projects. It’s an excellent choice for those specialising in a particular area of history. The programme focuses on the theoretical aspects of History as a scholarly discipline and on selected themes from International, African and South African History. Your big project for the year will be researching and writing a dissertation of between 10,000 and 15,000 words on a topic of your choosing, which you will develop by working closely with a supervisor. The dissertation is your first opportunity to produce original historical research.
Master’s in History
This research-intensive programme is for students who wish to explore advanced topics and contribute original scholarship. It offers the opportunity to work closely with a supervisor on a specialised thesis. A thesis in History which is based on original research on primary sources must be completed. The programme focuses on those aspects of the past listed in the areas of specialisation.
PhD in History
Aimed at experienced researchers, this PhD programme supports in-depth exploration of complex historical themes. It allows candidates to contribute significantly academically through rigorous, original research. A thesis in History which is based on original research on primary sources must be completed. The programme focuses on those aspects of the past listed in the areas of specialisation.
