Systematic Theology and Ecclesiology

The Department of Systematic Theology and Ecclesiology at Stellenbosch University explores Christian doctrines, ethical principles and theological traditions while addressing the pressing questions of our time. We focus on the South African context and the Reformed tradition, providing a space for deep theological reflection on faith, society and church practice. Our work equips students and scholars to engage with contemporary challenges critically, fostering a deeper understanding of theology’s role in shaping individual beliefs and broader societal change.

Systematic Theology
Systematic Theology organises and synthesises Christian doctrines into a coherent framework, offering a structured approach to understanding faith and practice. Key areas of study include God, creation, salvation and eschatology, helping students develop a deeper and more unified theological perspective.

Ecclesiology
Ecclesiology examines the church's history, structure and practices, exploring its role in society and its evolving mission in contemporary contexts. This field of study provides insights into the church’s relationship with culture, governance and worship, equipping students to engage meaningfully in church leadership and ministry.
