Our Work
Tygerberg Student Affairs provides a broad range of support services aimed at enhancing the student experience. These include academic advising, psychological counselling, mental health screenings, peer-tutoring, career development services, and referrals to specialised support. The services are tailored to meet the diverse needs of students at all levels of study.

Academic support
Students are supported in their academic journey through:
- Academic advising
- Study skills workshops
- Time management and assessment preparation strategies
- Peer-tutoring programmes (MenTuts)
- Subject-specific support for high-risk modules
- Skills development in note-taking, stress management and sleep hygiene
Mental health and well-being
The Centre for Student Counselling and Development (CSCD) offers:
- Confidential counselling and psychotherapy
- Group therapy and wellness workshops
- Emergency psychological support via ER24 (after hours)
- Support for anxiety, depression, trauma, grief and relationship challenges
Campus health services
Accessible health care includes:
- Primary consultations with a nurse
- Doctor consultations (available 2–3 hours daily)
- Family planning and immunisations
- HIV counselling and testing
- Travel health support
Career development
Career readiness support includes:
- Career counselling and assessments
- CV and job-seeking workshops
- Interview preparation and personal branding
- LinkedIn profile optimisation
Support for students with disabilities

The food security initiative, managed by social workers, ensures that students in need receive nutritional support during their studies.
