MBChB V MPS Ethics Debate 2023
The Centre for Medical Ethics and Law, in collaboration with the Medical Protection Society (MPS) and the Tygerberg Debating Union,
hosted a stimulating Ethics Debate with the motion: 'This house would impose penalties for medical institutions that do not attempt to reduce their environmental impact.' The debate was held on 23 March 2023.

The Centre for Medical Ethics and Law, in collaboration with the MPS and the Tygerberg Debating Union, hosted a robust Ethics Debate with the motion: ‘This House Believes That Artificial Intelligence-Driven Health Care poses gender and ethics biases.’ The debate was held on 24 March 2022.
MBChB V MPS Ethics Debate 2021
The debate was held on 30 September 2021 – Topic: This house will allow doctors to conscientiously object to treating patients who refuse to take the COVID-19 vaccine. The MPS co-hosted livestream event was attended by approximately 120 academics, medical practitioners, and students.
Winner of 8th ethics essay competition - 2018
This year all health science students were invited to submit essays on the topic :" The Ethics of water as a scarce resource in Cape Town- A tragedy of the commons?"
Congratulations to Louiso Du Pisanie (MBChB 4 student) whose submission was selected as the winning essay by Dr Graham Howarth of MPS in the UK.

Winner of 7th ethics essay competition - 2017
This year all health science students were invited to submit essays on the topic : "Protest action in higher education: rights and responsibilities of health science students"
Congratulations to Thobeka Nkabinde (MBChB 4 student) whose submission was selected as the winning essay by Dr Graham Howarth of MPS in the UK. She received her prize of R 5000.00 at the Annual MPS Ethics Evening that was held on 18 October 2017 at the CTICC.
