MPA & MA/MCom in PDM
MCom (Public and Development Management)
M (Public Administration)
The programme is directed at mid-career public and development managers and emerging scholars, who have already obtained an Honours degree in Public Administration/Public and Development Management. The aim of this Programme is to cultivate critical, multi-skilled researchers capable of addressing complex societal governance challenges, with a deep understanding of development dynamics and the influence of competing narratives. The programme seeks to promote independent research on issues that promote good governance in the local, provincial, national and regional public and development sectors.
There are two programme options.
- First, the structured option, where 50% of your final mark is determined by a delimited research thesis and the remaining 50% the average mark attained for three 30-credit elective modules. The electives on offer vary from year to year.
- Second, the full-research option, where the full weight of your marks are determined by a substantive research thesis. Registration for the 100% thesis option requires prior approval of your Masters research proposal by the MPA/MCom programme head, to ensure that the proposed study adheres to the requirements of a 180-credit thesis.
The list of possible electives can be found in the most recent Economic and Management Sciences yearbook:
