BA Student Committee (BASC)
Who we are

BASC Committee
The BA Student Committee (abbreviated as BASC) is a team of Student leaders that are elected as representatives for all students in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS). BASC representatives sit on Faculty Committees alongside staff-members and administrators to provide a student perspective and advocate for students in all aspects of Faculty interaction, from Social Impact to Culture and Transformation.
Our task is to handle academic queries, promote social and cultural awareness, and spearhead initiatives that are relevant to the FASS and University student community. BASC is thus responsible for organising events to promote students’ interaction with the faculty and with other students. We organise events such as sustainability and outreach programmes, as well as a Faculty Dance. All our work is intended to ensure a well-rounded and stimulating academic experience for all of the students in our faculty.
BASC Executive Committee
The BASC Committee is also responsible for more than just Student Advocation and Interaction, we are at our core your representatives, and as such, are also here to assist with any issues and grievances you may possibly have.
BASC is also responsible for appointing and managing the mentor teams in the Music, Visual Arts, and Drama departments (fondly referred to as MAD mentors).
BASC Non-Executive Committee
These MAD mentors are senior students who act as a guide to new students who need assistance managing their schedules, classes, and sometimes even personal issues. The mentor teams are seen as a senior friend to help look out for struggling students – which is why they are also a direct link between the departments not in the main BA Building and the BASC Student Relations portfolio manager, should any issues be serious enough to warrant our involvement.
The BASC team is looking forward to the year to come, and also interacting with all of our students.
