Partnerships

Stellenbosch University prides itself on dynamic partnerships that drive innovation and societal progress. We know that what happens in the world shapes our University, and that what happens at our University matters to the world. That is why SU collaborates with a global partnership network that spans six continents.

Collaborations vary from departmental and faculty-level initiatives to broad institutional agreements to work together on some of the world’s challenges. The number of partner institutions abroad participating in our dual degree programmes and split-site degree offerings also continue to grow year on year. In addition, we take an active part in various alliances, consortia and initiatives, both globally and closer to home.

Community

Engagement with our community is at the heart of our University’s mission. Through impactful research, social initiatives and economic contributions, we foster meaningful change and shared growth. Our University has also become synonymous with the town of Stellenbosch over the past more than 100 years. This unique interdependence, often called a “town-and-gown” relationship, makes it almost impossible to separate the two entities, and neither institution would have been successful without the other's presence and support.

In 2024, our University contributed R4,22 billion to the local economy, generated 13% of the town’s GDP and generated 13% of the formal sector jobs in Stellenbosch.

Making a difference Donations

In 2024 alone, the University received R406 million in donations, marking a significant increase of 22,6% from the previous year. These contributions enable us to fund bursaries and wrap-around student support, invest in world-class facilities and drive innovation initiatives that benefit local and global communities. With a growing and engaged donor base, including international partners, philanthropic funding sustains transformative opportunities for our students and researchers, reinforcing our University’s commitment to inclusivity, sustainability, and societal advancement. Our students will make a difference because you have made a difference.
