SU VALUES WORKSHOPS – FIRST SEMESTER
The values of Stellenbosch University (SU) relate to the beliefs and attitudes that guide our behaviour. Naming our values is easy but putting them into action in our daily activities may often present some difficulties. Therefore, the SU values – excellence, compassion, equity, respect and accountability – need to become part of how we act, make decisions and deal with ethical challenges.
The University's Values in Action practical workshops aim to equip staff and students to embody values-driven behaviour and leadership. These workshops are informative, experiential and practical.
Themes and skills
The workshop will enable participants to develop a common understanding of the kind of university community we strive to be and acquire skills to manage possible values conflicts.
The following themes are covered during the workshop:
- What is the meaning of values and why does it matter?
- Values conflicts and how to resolve and handle these.
- How to integrate values in how we behave, act and relate to others.
- The integration of values through leadership and teamwork.
Format
- The program is presented on or close to the Stellenbosch and Tygerberg campuses as a full day workshop.
- Due to the personal nature of the learning experience, workshops are presented for groups of 10-20 delegates.
- Bearing in mind cost-effectiveness, unfortunately, workshops cannot be presented for groups of less than 10 people. If less than 10 people registered for a certain date, they will receive the opportunity to choose another date.
Invitation to all staff
All SU staff from all the campuses and environments are invited to join this journey by attending one of the workshops. Workshops are available for staff across the University – this also enables interaction between diverse individuals from various environments.
