Timetables
General information
IMPORTANT: Please ensure that you have indicated your “Preferred language of Teaching” (i.e. Afrikaans or English) as part of your Personal Information in SUNStudent. This will ensure that you are allocated to classes which are offered in your preferred language – where applicable.
Part A: Class timetable information for first year students
If you are a first-year student (EXCEPT the programmes listed in part B), we will divide you into groups at the beginning of the academic year and you will get a personal class timetable on the Friday before classes start.
If you change your course, a module or your preferred language of teaching, your updated class timetable will be on the web the NEXT morning.
Your personal class timetable can be found on the web by clicking on 'Class timetable (all modules)' above or as follows:
> My.SUN
> Undergraduate
> Studies
> Class Timetable (all modules)
NB! The personal class timetables of first year students are only updated on the web for the first two weeks of semester 1. After the first two weeks, first year students can find the groups and/or timeslots of new modules they register for as described in Class timetable information for senior undergraduate students.
The timetable is only available in English. Should you require translation of a module name from English to Afrikaans, click on ‘Translation of module names’ above.
For further tips and instructions, you can refer to the First years FAQs.
Please consult SUNLearn for further details regarding the offering per module.

1. When will the class timetables be available?
You will receive a personal class timetable via the timetable app on the Friday before classes start. If, after you have received your personal class timetable, you change your programme, a module or your preferred language of teaching, your updated class timetable will be available under “Class timetable (all modules)” the NEXT morning.
PLEASE NOTE: Your personal class timetable will only be updated for you for the first two weeks of semester 1. After the first two weeks, you can find the class timetable with new modules that you register for by following the steps as described in Question 5.
2. How do I access my timetable?
(a) Click on the link “Class Timetables (all modules)” on this webpage and log in with your SU e-mail and password.
(b) You will automatically land on the “My Timetable” page.
(c) Select the relevant week (e.g. the first week of semester 1) from the "Calendar" dropdown list at the top of the “My Timetable” page.
3. How will I know if I have a timetable clash?
No activities will be displayed on the “My Timetable” application. Contact Maudrie Claasen (Inorganic Chemistry Building, Room 2004, or [email protected]) to enquire about the clash and to determine whether it can be resolved. If the clash can be resolved, your new personal timetable will be accessible on the “My Timetable” application by following the steps as stipulated in Question 2 above.
PLEASE NOTE: Your personal class timetable will only be updated for you for the first two weeks of semester 1. After the first two weeks, you can find the class timetable with new modules that you register for by following the steps as described in Question 5.
4. I made a change to my registration; why does it not reflect on the "My Timetable" application?
Your personal class timetable on the “My Timetable” application is updated for you for the first two weeks of semester 1. If, during the first two weeks of semester 1, you (a) remove/add a module or (b) change your programme/focal area or (c) change your preferred language of teaching, on a specific day, your updated class timetable will display, not on the same day already, but definitely the NEXT morning.
PLEASE NOTE: If you make any changes to your programme/focal area or module after the first two weeks of semester 1, you can find the class timetable of the new modules you registered for by following the steps as described in Question 5 below.
5. How do I obtain a timetable if I made changes to my registration after the first two weeks of semester 1?
Use the “Find Timetable” functionality on the "My Timetable" application. Choose the module(s) that you want to change or add and then the lecture/tutorial/practical group of the added/changed module(s). You can view your changes before they are permanently applied by selecting the “COMBINED” view type in the “Preview Timetable” window. To permanently apply and save your changes, click on "save".
6. How do I obtain the class timetable for a module that I am not registered for?
Use the “Find Timetable" functionality on the "My Timetable" application. Select the module that you are not registered for and then the lecture/tutorial/practical group. You can preview the class timetable for this module without it being permanently applied by selecting the “COMBINED” view type in the “Preview Timetable” window. To permanently apply and save the change, click on "save".
7. Where van I find more information about the use of the "My Timetable" page?
Consult the “Help” page, accessible from the "My Timetable" application, for further helpful tips.
If you have any further queries, please contact Maudrie Claasen at [email protected].
If you are a senior undergraduate student, choose any group that fits in on your timetable, with the exception of a few programmes for which your faculty will inform you if you must join a specific group.
