Division of Orthopaedic Surgery

At the Division of Orthopaedic Surgery, housed within the Department of Surgical Sciences, at Stellenbosch University, we combine clinical expertise, academic excellence and research innovation to advance musculoskeletal care across South Africa. At Tygerberg Hospital, our specialised surgical treatments address various conditions, from complex fractures to degenerative joint disease, using pioneering techniques such as custom 3D-printed implants and novel minimally invasive procedures that reduce recovery times and improve joint function.

Our academic programmes train medical professionals in general practice and orthopaedic surgery, ensuring graduates are prepared for real-world challenges. By integrating hands-on clinical training with cutting-edge research, we have produced influential studies on cartilage regeneration and innovative rehabilitation protocols reshaping patient care. Our division continues to drive improvements in orthopaedic outcomes, making a tangible impact on healthcare and patient quality of life across the region.
