Division of Clinical Pharmacology

Within the Department of Medicine, the Division of Clinical Pharmacology plays a crucial role in education, clinical service and research. Our work improves evidence-based prescribing practices, enhances medication safety and supports the development of new therapeutic approaches, all of which directly benefit patient care. Our activities support improved healthcare delivery through expert-led teaching, practical clinical services and focused research efforts.

Clinical services
Our services are designed to ensure the safe, responsible use of medications. We work to tailor treatments to individual patient needs, manage a trusted Poison Information Line for handling poisoning emergencies and operate a Therapeutic Drug Monitoring facility that helps local hospitals and private laboratories maintain proper drug levels.

Teaching and learning
We offer updated, hands-on instruction to students and healthcare practitioners, emphasising evidence-based prescribing techniques. This prepares future doctors and pharmacists to excel in clinical pharmacology.

Research
Our research addresses real-world challenges in clinical pharmacology, aiming to improve drug safety and patient treatment outcomes.

Special units
The Division of Clinical Pharmacology also hosts special divisions, namely the Poison Information Centre, the Clinical Pharmacology Laboratory and the Analytical Pharmacology Laboratory.
