Richard Gibbs
PhD candidate
Biography
Richard Gibbs is a doctoral candidate with the Mathematical Biosciences Lab (BioMath) in the Department of Mathematical Sciences at Stellenbosch University. He completed his BSc and BSc Hons degrees respectively through Stellenbosch University’s Biomathematics (ecology) programme. His subsequent MSc (also Stellenbosch University) examined the functional relationship between forager cognisance and environmental heterogeneity.
Richard’s PhD focuses on animal movement behaviour as a function of individual experience and perception. The focus is on improving prediction power given entirely novel environmental changes; which may range from conservation management efforts to those brought about by climate change.
