Division of Pulmonology​

The Division of Pulmonology at Tygerberg Hospital, part of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Stellenbosch University, is engaged in comprehensive education, research, and clinical services related to both respiratory health and critical care. Key clinical focus areas include the comprehensive management of respiratory pathologies, spanning across primary and sub-specialist levels, state of the art diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, and management of complex critically ill patients requiring multi-organ support in conjunction with our team of intensivists.​

Requirements

Minimum educational qualification:
Appropriate qualification that allows registration with the Health Professions Council of South
Africa (HPCSA) as a Medical Specialist Physician (i.e. needs to be registerable as Medical
Specialist Physician).
Registration with a professional council:
Registration with the HPCSA as a Medical Specialist in Internal Medicine.
Experience:
None after registration with the HPCSA.
Inherent requirement of the job:
Valid (Code B/EB) driver’s licence.
Willingness to work after hours.
Competencies (knowledge/skills):
Proficiency in at least two of the three official languages of the Western Cape.

Duties (key result areas/outputs):

Service delivery will be in the Pulmonology unit/ward in the Department of Medicine’s Intensive Care.
The position will be full -time (40 hours per week) and includes Pulmonology and ICU after hours cover.
The clinical service includes in-and out-patient management of lung diseases.
Teaching post-and under-graduate students in pulmonology.
Registration for the MPhil (Pulmonology) degree and completion of the research component is required.
