Nuclear Medicine

The Division of Nuclear Medicine, housed within the Department of Medical Imaging and Clinical Oncology is a leader in the field, combining cutting-edge technology with compassionate care. Located within both Stellenbosch University and Tygerberg Hospital, we provide comprehensive nuclear medicine services for patients of all ages. Our expertise spans diagnostic imaging – utilising PET/CT and SPECT/CT – radionuclide therapy and specialised research that pushes the boundaries of what nuclear medicine can achieve.

Education is at the heart of our mission. We take pride in training the next generation of nuclear medicine professionals through programmes offered at Stellenbosch University and the Cape Peninsula University of Technology. With strong ties to international experts and organisations, we are instrumental in advancing nuclear medicine practices across Africa. Our research team collaborates on projects addressing critical health challenges such as cancer, infection and neurodegenerative diseases, partnering with initiatives like the NuMeRI Node for Infection Imaging to drive innovation and improve patient outcomes.
